...except that it's afternoon now...
Just came in from two hours worth of shoveling the drive. About five inches of heavy powder, I would say, to add to the three or so inches I shoveled yesterday. So, 8? 9? Not trivial, but not the snowpocalypse that initial reports indicated.
The pups ran around the backyard, barking at neighbors who had the nerve to shovel their drives and chasing one another. Gaby also had to take breaks every so often to dig snow out of her nether regions. Even so, she turned into one big snow booger thanks to her longish, coarse coat. King, whose coat is shorter and smoother, didn't have any issues with stickage.
Could get more snow on Monday, dammit.
After a few misfires, I finally made steel-cut oats in the microwave. The trick is to use a big bowl to contain the foamage--I cooked a half cup oats and a cup and a half milk in a 2.5 qt bowl. Plenty of room. Ten minutes cook time resulted in a nicely thickened oatmeal with the meal itself the consistency of soft nuts. Nicely chewy. Another few minutes would have softened it, I'm sure.
I need to dab up the puddles dotting the kitchen floor. Then. lunch. Bean soup. It's a bean soup kinda day.
