Hands of a sturgeon
Aug. 20th, 2005 08:36 pmA few years ago, I bought a jigsaw crab figure from an artist at Wiscon. It's a neat-looking work, but you have to be careful because pieces could easily slide out of place and then you'd be left with a pile of, well, pieces.
So there it was, standing atop a CD container, which in turn sits atop my file cabinet in my office. This cabinet is pretty firmly ensconced in a corner, hard by a bookcase. Nothing is going to be moving anytime soon.
So I'm hunting for my Cowboy Junkies CD with "Common Disaster", and check that particular CD case...which won't open and won't open...
...until I pull the door and it slams down, the shock of which sends the crab figure over backwards. Imagine the sound of the various pieces as they fly apart, bouncing off the back of the cabinet and the wall before scattering to the floor. Behind the cabinet. Hard by a bookcase. Which ain't going to be moving anytime soon.
I hate it when that happens.

I have a jigsaw sea monster sculpture I bought a few years back at a con, probably from the same artist. It sits on top of my computer desk, and anytime the desk is jarred the teeth fall out. A hard bump and its Humpty-Dumpty time, though fortunately I've always managed to retrieve the pieces.
I've thought about simply gluing it together.

I also have a small wolf made by this woman. The hind leg seems to work its way out from under no matter what I do.
