We loves ibuprofen, oh yes we loves it!
Oct. 31st, 2004 09:07 pmThe pain pills have kicked in, wiping out the weather/allergy-related headache and the aches resulting from the skirmishes with the new leaf vacuum and having filled 13 bags full of leaves. And we're only about 1/3 done. I have three weeks to take care of the rest of the things, after which the city stops picking up lawn waste until next Spring.
The leaf vacuum will, I think, work quite well to pick up the leaves that have taken refuge in my garage and various niches in the landscaping. For the big, whacking piles that built up against the fence thanks to 24 hours of 30+MPH winds, it just ain't gonna cut it. I filled the attached bag within five minutes, and lost time due to leaves getting stuck in the intake and the junction between the impeller and the bag. I bought the thing because I thought it would mulch the leaves, but it didn't chop them all that well. Of course, this was the inexpensive model with the plastic impeller. The nice model with the metal impeller costs over 3x as much. Unfortunately, the bag doesn't look much bigger. Problem is, a bag that wouldn't need to be changed every 5 minutes is a bag that would need to be supported on wheels and dragged behind, which lessens one's maneuverability somewhat. Oh well.
Installed the new wireless doorbells--yea! I still need to hang the control box. First, however, I need to make sure that I still have leftover paint from when we painted the hallway because I would like to remove the old wired control box from its place in said hallway and replace it with the new controller. Of course, they aren;t the same size. This means painting is required. Assuming I still have paint. If not, the control box will be hung in the living room and removal of the old controller will wait until we decide to change the color of the hallway again.
It's never just one simple thing. It always snowballs.
I managed to fit a little writing into the mix, both last night and tonight. last night, unfortunately, I posted a net loss of wordage because I cut stuff I didn't replace. Started at 11,437 words, ended at 11,371--not what I hoped for when I started. But, we're back to working on Chapter 1, and the POV character finally did me the honor of defining herself. This is always welcome, because it really does help to know what the hell tone one should use when giving voice to one's characters. Otherwise, things tend to wobble a bit. Responses lack consistency and every time you're about to write a sequence, you hang up on the question "Would so-and-so really do that?" Hundreds of past pages have bitten the dust because I wasn't able to answer that simple question soon enough in the process, so it's nice to be able to answer it for this particular character now. Some rewriting has been done--hence the word loss last night--and I should have this chapter in decent enough shape to use it for my Windycon reading. It's not perfect, but then, it seldom is.
Work tomorrow. *phfft!*
